Investigations

The mission of the Rio Blanco County Sheriff's Office Investigation Division is to effectively, ethically and professionally investigate criminal complaints and to focus on excellence in the preparation of those cases referred to the District Attorney for prosecution. The Investigation Division is responsible for responding to requests by the public, patrol and detentions divisions, and the District Attorney to identify, apprehend and assist in the prosecution of criminals who prey upon the citizens of Rio Blanco County.

The Sheriff's Office also investigates white-collar and computer crimes. The tremendous growth of the internet combined with the growing demand for computers in households, schools and businesses has generated a marked increase in computer and Internet crime. Fraud, ID theft and Internet crimes pose a significant threat to the citizens of Rio Blanco County. The cases are difficult to prosecute because they often involve multiple jurisdictions, crossing state and national boundaries.

The Sheriff's Office will ensure victim's rights as the Constitution of the State of Colorado and the laws of this state guarantee rights to the victims of the following crimes. If the victim is deceased or incapacitated, these rights are guaranteed to the victim's spouse, parents, child, sibling, grandparent, significant other, or other lawful representative.
