The total sales tax rate for Rio Blanco County is 6.5%. This is county wide, which means neither Meeker nor Rangely has a city tax. The breakdown is 2.9% Colorado State Sales Tax and 3.6% Rio Blanco County Sales Tax. Rio Blanco County sales tax is state collected which means the entire 6.5% goes to the state and 3.6% is then distributed back to Rio Blanco County.
You must have a State of Colorado sales tax license in order to have a retail business. Forms are available at the Rio Blanco County Sales & Use Tax Department, 1st Floor of the courthouse, or by calling Debbie Morlan at (970)878-9610 to have one mailed to you. These are also available at the Colorado Department of Revenue.
After the State of Colorado processes your information, they send it to Rio Blanco County. A license application for the county will then be mailed to you. There is no charge for the county license. The Town of Meeker does not require a business license, but the Town of Rangely does. They can be reached at (970)675-8477.
